Our trade supplier has just started selling these and we have just started stocking them a week or so ago now. These cards offer good value for those gamers who require good performance but who don't want to splash out on a full GeForce 2 or a Radeon and I do believe that there is a very good market for them and they will sell well.
The thing is with this MX is that you are actually getting a cut down version of the GeForce 2 GTS. The thing that makes the MX slower and hence cheaper than the full version of this card is that it has less pipelines and a lower core speed of the GPU and memory. With less pipelines it takes the signal longer to get through than when theres more pipelines. The core speeds are measured in MHz in much the same way tha CPU's are but in this case it's the GPU and the memory.
Despite this the MX still boasts some impressive specifications. For starters it's 32Mb of memory is DDR or double data rate which is the latest thing in terms of memory. Also it has 2nd generation T&L engines which will apparently help the card peak at 20 million triangles a second. Pretty impressive specs here. Also the card has a 256 bit architecture and is AGP 4x compatible, providing your motherboard is recent enough to support this.
It's actual real life performance isn't quite as impressive thought unfortunately. I have seen the benchmarks for the GeForce 2 MX and it is in somewhere between the original GeForce 1 SDR and the GeForce 2 GTS. This is to be expected. To be honest I don't think you'll find a better card for the £100-00 that this card will cost you.
Overall this card is a brilliant little budget solution with the reassurance of Creative quality. This will certainly do a very good job for you and is ample for today's games. It is well worth the money and you will be happy with the performance I am sure.
