Pros:Free, Easy, Well maintained, Fast Service
Cons:Frequently changing, Inconsistent service
I'm a very stubborn consumer, especially when it comes to the internet. If I'm going to subscribe to a particular service, I'm going to get exactly what I want, or I'm not interested. But, I'm also loyal to the companies and services to which I subscribe. Sometime a few years ago, I created a hotmail account. At that time, Yahoo! mail was fairly new, and it was much less common to hear of people that subscribed to Yahoo over MSN's hotmail. Following the crowd, I signed up with Hotmail. Ironically, I like hotmail because it hasn't changed. In a fast paced, constantly updated internet, hotmail has always been consistent, offering a stable service.
Now that Yahoo! is much more popular, it's services have vastly improved, and I think surpassed, those of hotmail.com. The most important of these improvements, for me, is the "Bulk Mail" feature that Yahoo! offers. Yahoo! will automatically separate what it believes to be junk mail, or bulk blind carbon copied letters, into a separate folder than your typical Inbox. This way, you can get to the more important letters, the ones that are addressed to you, before you have to rummage through the junk mail. Also, the "Bulk Mail" box has a faster delete-time. That means that after a short time, Yahoo! will take care of getting rid of the junk mail for you. You won't need to bother.
Mischievous as I am, I often use free internet services for these little quirks that they offer, free. So, if you've read my epinion on "purchasealert.com," you'd notice that I set up a Yahoo! account, and I give out that address whenever I'm expecting to receive junk mail from a particular service to which I need to give an e-mail address. That way, I never have to check my Yahoo! account, if I know that any mail that arrives to that account is just going to be junk. And, with Yahoo!'s fast deleting time, I never even have to delete the junk mail! What a great feature that is for me! Perfect! So, if you're curious to give away your email (for sites that will pay you to send you email, like purchasealert) but you don't want to overload your regular box with junk mail, set up a Yahoo! account and forget about it!
