| nikabud's Full Review: Napster |
Napster is a free MP3 service and nothing short of a great deal! Running to the computer to see if your songs are downloaded yet is much more convenient than running to the nearest music store and paying almost $20 for the same songs. Also, instead of switching CDs in your stereo, you can create your own lists of songs you have downloaded to play continuously. To download this free service you can easily sign up by going to www.napster.com and answering a few, general questions. Napster never sends unwanted e-mail and never pesters you to get their new version. Also, their troubleshooting area is VERY detailed and helpful.
Included in Napster are various chat rooms, not just a "general" chat area, where you can meet people who have Napster even in Europe, Asia, and maybe even some in the other continents. This program has never failed to keep me content. Napster is such a 'user-friendly' type of software that even people that aren't too well associated with computer functions could easily find their way around this program. The categories are conveniently placed at the top of the screen where they are visible.
I have been using Napster for about a year and I have accumulated over 100 songs into my MP3 Library. By no means is there a limit on how many songs you can download. When you download a song, it is downloaded from someone else's library through the internet. Virtually any song can be searched and found on Napster because there are an innumerable amount of people that are on Napster at that time.
If you're wondering how we are able to download songs from other people, it's all very simple. People have taken their own CDs and downloaded the songs the own and practically are giving them to Napster so other people can download them. This represents a friendly environment where everyone gives and gets. By no means does that mean that you HAVE to share your songs but it is a nice gesture to do so. If you have a 56k modem connection, you can download a song in less than 15 minutes.
Here are the ONLY upsetting things about Napster. If you are downloading a song and the person you are downloading it from happens to get off the internet, you are no longer able to download it from them. This has just become a way of life and everyone gets used to, but it doesn't mean you can't try it again from another person. If you have a 56k modem connection, you can download a song in less than 15 minutes. You can also download as many songs as you want, but the speed is distributed among all the songs you download.
I just want to say that Napster has been very easy to use and has helped me in many ways unimaginable. This is just another way to listen to your favorite songs for free! I hope you consider it!!
