| piotr's Full Review: Agfa SnapScan 1212p Flatbed Scanner |
When home for Christmas, I decided to buy a scanner in the US since the prices can be lower than half of what I would pay here in Poland(agfa1212p
list 780PLN or about $195.00) I found the 1212p in a discount type store for $69.00 w/out rebate, and risked it. Upon my return to Poland, I hooked it up to my PC which runs on NT, and of course I had crashes, frozen screens, 100% of my CPU taken up etc., but after contacting Agfa and explaining the problem, one of their less helpful troubleshooters wrote back that new drivers would help. After a second letter, someone named Jill wrote me a very helpfull letter explaining exactly which download I needed. Now the scanner works like a beast on steroids! A friend of mine is a graphic artist and produces an information brochure for which he needs lots of good scans. He scans on a SCSI scanner which shall remain nameless for now, and has his 35mm slides scanned on a drum scanner at the equivalent of $10.00 a pop. He JPEGed scans from his scanner and from the drum scanner, and the 1212p most closely matched the drum scan, hands down. Not bad for a $70.00 scanner with 1.8D, huh?(Not to mention that the 1212p isn't designed for scanning slides with an adapter!)
