| olau88's Full Review: NEC MultiSync LCD1525M 15 in. Flat Panel LCD Monit... |
At home my old computer monitor was an old NEC MultiSync 5FGE. It was rated at 17inch with approx. 15inch viewable. I always wanted a LCD monitor. Recently I decided to build a new computer and gave myself an excuse for a new monitor. If you could see my old monitor..it's depth is longer then it's width. It also weighted like a metric ton (well, close enough).
At first I could not justify the cost versus size ratio. I began my search on 19inch CRTs. Here is my problem, I stare at a monitor 9/10 hours a day (work) and during the workweek you can bet I'm staring at a monitor until I go to bed. Is this healthy? Probably not! When it comes to retaining value, other then a few peripherals (Oh let's not forget the all important A: Drive) I can't think of a better example then a monitor. Damm my parent's TV is a decade old and it still works mint. And it's that very reason I bought an LCD. Easier on my eyes, is a big plus (I hope I don't wear coke bottles in 5 years!).
Why did I choose the NEC 1525M? I have always had great success with NEC and the fact this model came with some very cool features. It is rated as a Multimedia monitor. Every time I hear the word "Multimedia" I think of the early 90's when every computer was called "Multimedia"... ohhh comes with speakers and a 2X CD-ROM and a mic, now you can install some encyclopaedia software! Anyhow the 1525M have 2 built in speakers. It also has a built in USB hub! I really like that feature. For the life of me I still don't know why USB have not taken off as much as I think it should of, then again I still don't understand why we still use the 1.44MB floppies. Eventually I plan to switch my keyboard and mouse to USB. With 2 plugs left, I’m sure in time I will buy some gadget that requires a USB plug.
At any rate. I am pleased with my purchase. The monitor looks very cool. The space saving alone makes me smile, now I actually have a desktop (My REAL desktop!). No complaints, my monitor did not have any bad pixels. My laptop has one bad pixel and I have been told 3 bad pixels per square inch are justifiable for a replacement. Anything less..tough beans! The menu is very user friendly. All the plugs to the monitor are in a panel on the back. You insert your cables by popping off the panel. I like this design as it makes for a very flush look.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone. I do hope the prices of LCDs drop soon. I would not mind having a LCD farm in my house… A little excessive but very cool!
