We always hear about Zip Drives and how they're so popular. But what about the SuperDisk drives? I didn't even know about them until a few weeks ago when I decided to buy one. The SuperDisk drive is similar to a Zip Drive, but it stores 120 MB's instead of 100 Megs, although some Zip Drives store as much as 250. However, the Super Disk drive is more or less a floppy drive with a much higher capacity. Therefore, you don't need a separate drive for your removable media and ur floppy disks. The floppy disks are compatible with the Super Disk Drive. In perspective, however, the SuperDisks come up short. A CD-RW drive with 2X write speeds costs $50 to $100 more to purchase, with similar performance. The difference is that the media cost $2 to $5 per disk, and have capacities of 650MB each--more than five times the capacity of a SuperDisk--for a cost of less than a penny per megabyte. Given the large size of today's hard disks, the extra capacity per disk and the lower cost make CD-RW a better proposition. Basically, the Super Disk is better than most other types of removable media, but the CD-RW drive beats them all. However, if you are set on getting a removable media drive get the Super Disk.
