I bought this CDRW drive a little while back. It has so far turned out to be an ok drive. I probably would not buy another one however. I'd probably buy an HP drive and pay the extra money.
First of my problems with this drive is the included software. It immediately crashed my hard drive. After 2 hours of trying different methods of booting in such a way that I could completely uninstall it I gave up and had to reformat. Thinking it was a fluke, I tried again. Once again it crashed my hard drive. This time I was able to get the computer started and got rid of just enough of the files to start the computer in something besides DOS or safe mode. Getting the program up I used my McAfee Uninstaller to get rid of the rest of the program. It went through and did it's thing, but I still experienced sluggishness and very slow boot-ups there afterwards. Once again I decided to reformat the system. This time I did not install the software included. I bought a copy of Adaptec's Easy CD Creator and from there on it worked perfectly fine. I still do not know what happened, but I don't care because it runs good now with some excellent software.
The drive itself has not been a bad drive. It seems to work pretty good with everything I've put in it so far except Memorex's CDRWs in the Silver package. I've used Kingston, Memorex (CDR only), Maxell, and Smart & Friendly discs and all have worked pretty well. One minor problem (and this may just be the way CDRW drives act) is that when I do a "format" of a CDRW disc (make the disc act as a floppy), it seems to only get about 600MB of the 650 that it should have. I have had no problem using 80min discs in the drive.
All in all not a bad drive. One for beginners like I was when I got it. Like I said before, I wouldn't buy another. I would buy an HP right now.
