Whenever you hear about the internet and email, you're almost always likely to hear about AOL. America Online is popular, it's one of the older, more established services out there, and it's trusted by a lot of people. On most ends, I too trust America Online.
I think AOL offers many conveniences that I would not have been able to access in other ways. For instance, on America Online, a dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, reference books, convenient chat forums... they're all just a few clicks away. On the Web, though, I often find myself spending more time searching for what I need then I do reading what I want to be reading! On the e-mail side of things, AOL has always brought a trusty service. I particularly like the file-attachments feature. Instead of there being a small, often unnoticed, line of text to let you know that there is an attachment on the email, there is a large, noticeable icon on the title of the mail. Also, when sending to another member of America Online, you can request a "return receipt." A return receipt lets you know when an email you send was read, or if it was just deleted. Some people might think this feature is a little invasive, but I happen to like it.
AOL Netmail came out a few years back, and I've noticed many improvements even in such a short time. I think netmail was a very important service for America Online to come out with. It widens AOL's customer accessibility, and previously, I'd say that one of America Online's major weaknesses was its inaccessibility. Overall, I think America Online, and certainly netmail, are solid, reliable services. I trust them.
