Greenfield Online
Grade: A
I just received my check for $505.00 today, so I am now quite motivated to write a glowing Epinion about Greenfield online. This site is one of many online survey sites, which are essentially consumer research firms that conduct their research electronically.
Registration is simple and takes a few minutes. Greenfield Online does not offer a set amount of cash in exchange for your participation; instead, you are entered into a drawing for a cash prize. For instance, where Acorn Research will give you $5 per survey, Greenfield will enter you to win one prize of $500, 3 prizes of $100, 5 prizes of $50, and 50 prizes of $5 (or something similar). The exact amounts vary from survey to survey, based mainly upon the expected time required to complete it. So while you are not guaranteed to receive anything, you have a much higher maximum potential. If you win, they deposit your earnings into an account at iGain.com, where you can either have them cut a check or donate the money to charities.
Another good thing about Greenfield is that you do not have to fit a certain profile to qualify for participation; the site maintains an open list of surveys that any member can partake in. Some other sites use your member profile information to send you infrequent emails saying that you qualify for a current study.
I started filling out Greenfield surveys around December 1999 or so. What I basically do is take about 10-15 minutes a day filling out surveys for them. That way the amount of studies that I have not completed does not get too far out of hand, and I easily maximize my chances of winning. The site adds about one or two a day, so that is not too much to ask.
Some people may easily get discouraged, mainly because the possible benefits are not immediately visible. It takes about 6-8 weeks from the study's completion to learn if you have won anything, so for the first 6-8 weeks it feels like you are working for nothing. I choose to think of it as the period when you begin new employment and your paycheck is fairly late the first few weeks but regular thereafter. I was pleasantly surprised (to say the least) when I got an email saying that I had won $5.
When I checked my iGain account, they had also deposited $500 two days earlier from another survey drawing! I probably threw away the email thinking it was junk, but I quickly clicked on "Request a Check" and began celebrating (hehehe). My advice, especially for those of you who, like me, get a lot of junk mail, is to make a habit of checking your iGain account by hand and not relying on the email notification.
All in all, Greenfield Online is not one of those sites that takes your info and "claims" to enter you into a drawing; THEY PAY. I can now attest to that, as I hold my $505.00 check right now. For the few minutes a day that I spend on the site, it is worthwhile not only because you get to submit input on many common products and services, but also because they might surprise you with a nice reward.
