Free internet access! What a concept: Unlimited access free as long as you can deal with a stupid floating banner ad. NetZero was the first company I heard about to offer such a deal. And what a deal it is... in theory.
The biggest joke would have to be the "un" part of unlimited. Sure NetZero remains free, but you are limited by busy signals, bad connections, and other problems. Even when I was able to get connected with NetZero, the speeds were so awful I actually considered using that AOL free trial cd that had been sitting in my desk all year.
It's sad, but probably the best thing about NetZero is the number of cracks out there that exist. I'm not sure how they all work, but I found one that crashes the banner so you can surf the slow and choppy waves of NetZero without having to deal with the banner ads. That's some compensation I guess, but overall you'd be better trying out BlueLight.Com. It's the more superior free ISP... for your money.
