If I can install and run this little PC cam, then believe me, anyone can!
I have had this cam, called C-IT, made by IBM, for xirlink, for over a year now. I absolutely love it! It is small enough to sit on top of your monitor facing you, or you could actually put it anywhere you wish, depending on what you want to snap pictures or videos of.
It came with a cd containing the software needed to properly install it. That was easy enough for me. I have put this camera on two different computers, and have had no problems whatsoever.
One feature I think is really good is the photo album in which all of your photos are stored so you can go "visit" them, to see what you have. They are easy to delete if you want to replace any with newer ones.
I have sent many pictures to friends via email. It is really simple, by bringing up "file" and clicking "send" from the photo album page. The camera display that comes up on your computer looks like a video camera screen. It actually shows a well-defined view of whatever or whoever is sitting in front of the cam. I try to have quite a bit of available room light or natural light in the room, because if it is very dark, the pictures do not come out very well.
I have used the video feature a few times, trying it in some video conferencing sites. The "movie" didn't really move very lifelike, it was rather choppy. Since then I have just made "stills", and I am happy with that.
If you want to send relatives or friends quick email photos of your family, I can't think of a better way to do it. The pictures are received quite easily also, and show up well on anyone's computer. I have received pictures from another owner of the same camera, so I know.
You can modify, and even write and draw on the pictures to add captions. That is fun!
Something else I realized I could do with the camera just recently added a new dimension to using a cam for picture taking!
I needed to send a few pictures via email to some friends. Well, not having a scanner, and no time to take pictures and wait for them to be developed on CD and installed on my computer, I decided to try something! I took two photos that I have in frames and HELD them up in front of the PC camera. Voila!!!! If you hold them just right so that they fill the screen, you can get photos that look like they were just taken!!! No kidding! You would never know that they were photos of photos... Since then I have done that on several occasions.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money for a web cam, and want good quality for your money, then I recommend this IBM PC camera. I paid $79.00 for it, but since then I have seen it for two for$99.00, which is great if you want to share pictures with a particular pal or family member.
