The Tecra 730 line is a year or two old now, which is more than enough time to judge it's quality. At one time it was the standard for my company's remote users. The standard chage was due to prices and internal standards debates.
Over the life of this unit, I've had to replace the keyboard and the CD-ROM drive. I'll chalk up the keyboard problem to dropping junk in it, something that will kill almost any laptop.
It's been very stable, running both 95 and 98. Battery life is less than stellar, at under 1hr 20min at best. The cooling fan does make more noise than average. When running remote, the bottom of the unit gets VERY warm, especially when on an insulating sorfave (hotel bed, fuzzy table cloth, etc.) The external floppy drive can be connected or removed hot (without rebooting), a VERY nice feature!
The only real complaint I have it the power switch. It's a flat push on, push off switch on the side of the unit. More than once I've arrived at a work site with a hot, dead laptop- because something bumped the unprotected switch while in transit.
