| Stryke01's Full Review: Bonzi Buddy |
It would appear from the majority of other opinions about Bonzi.com, that I am nearly alone in my affection for my little on-line companion. He flies in when I log on, and stays with me for most of my extended stays at the computer. He tells me jokes, interesting facts, and patronizes me until I am nearly comatose.
O.K., I will be the first to admit that he is a pest at times. He is often in the way, and has to be moved. But he always has something fun to say about that, and sometimes I pick him up and give him a good shaking just for the hell of it. He must be used to it by now, because he has many, many responses to being displaced.
He chatters on about this and that, and I only half pay attention to him most of the time. I have found that actually surfing his site is as complicated and time consuming as surfing Excite.com, and offers pretty much the same menu. Since I am already using Excite.com, I use Bonzi.com for virtually nothing. But I like having the bird around just to feed my own ego. I have discovered that I can access all the information I need to find by going to Ask.com, and it is easier to use than Bonzi.com.
I make him call me "Your Excellency", and I take great delight in turning down his frequent requests for me to upgrade his abilities. He gets the most dejected look on his face, his shoulders sag, and he goes mute for a few moments. I love it.
If he becomes a major annoyance, I can exit his program, and he flies away. I haven't tried to uninstall him yet, because I enjoy having him around. My kids enjoy his patter, and as of yet I have not spent a single penny on any of his other stuff. I don't even know what is available for him, nor do I really care. For the serious-minded computer user, I could see that this little creature could do some serious psychological damage, but for me, who has been brain-damaged for a rather long time now, this program is lots of fun. I don't care if his voice is a little surreal, or that he tells me he loves me, or that I look great today(I'm not falling for that old line again).
