Small, Efficient Hub; But Not Perfect!
Written: Dec 10 '00
Pros:Cheap, Small, Portable, USB!
Cons:Must plug in power cord for certain devices, weird problems...
I bought this hub because I ran out of USB ports. I opened it up, followed the very simple directions, and had the hub up and running. I just plugged it into my computer, and it was immediately recognized. Currently, I have my printer plugged into one port, and the hub in the other. In the hub I have a scanner, mouse, digital camera, and a Sony eMarker. They all work. However, what's annoying is that I have to hook the hub into an outlet to in order for it supply enough power to my camera, which requires 500 ma. Also, sometimes when I'm transferring a full load of pictures or doing a high resolution scan, the mouse will disappear, as if I unplugged it. This doesn't happen that often, maybe one every three weeks. To remedy the situation I have to unplug the mouse (a Microsoft IntelliPoint Explorer) and reconnect it, so that it's recognized again. I don't think this is a bandwidth problem, because the bandwidth of the USB channel never exceeds 80%.
