HP's Micro Towers

Feb 08 '00

To start with the 6000 series are what is known as "Micro" tower these CPU's are really small. About 8"x11"x11", now that is about 1/2 the size of a standard mini tower. And about 1/4 the size of a full size tower (you know the old dinosaur types).

The Micro tower is a great idea, particularly if you are working with limited space. The 6000 series are small enough to fit into a small desk cupboard. Now if you have the money to spend, match that with a Flat Panel Monitor (HP makes a really nice one, imagine that); and you have a space saving computer system. The 6600 series also comes with Jewel cube speakers, another space saving technique.

The down side to the Microtower over the Minitower. There just simply isnt an easy way to upgrade the smaller towers. There just isnt the room. The 6000 series computers do not feature an AGP slot, and there is no room to add a new drive (no expansion slot for bays). Also there is no room for an extra internal hard drive. there are however a few PCI slots, and Memory slots for upgrade. But dont plan on extra drives, unless you want to go external.

Despite not being upgradeable, they are still great systems, and hey, if nothing else, they are really small
