| LordSegan's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Value Sound Card |
The Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value is an inexpensive but high performance sound card. I bought one nearly a year ago for about $70 and it has performed very well. Creative has even kept up on the drivers, and released several new revisions since I bought the card. Frankly, unless you use a Minidisk player, there is no need for any other card. ( A minidisk player uses an optical data link that only the more expensive Live! cards offer) The Live! Value has very low CPU useage, so its great for games- you can turn all the sound "goodies" on without worrying about it using too many processor cycles. It also offers 4 speaker stereo- a plus for gamers. The Value has 2 line out ports, and a mic port-- in fact, I was at first annoyed with it- because the ports are not clearly labeled. Other than this, however, this card has been frustration free. When I switched to Windows 2000 Professional there were a few driver issues, but Creative again came through and has since come out with an updated version.
