| gypsyrose75's Full Review: Intel PC Camera Pack |
I purchased this little camera a few months ago, after 3 trips to AZ and a couple high phone bills. I decided the 60.00 I spent on it would eventually pay itself off, especially considering the gas prices nowadays.
I was so excited I called my Mom right away and told her to run down and get one at Walmart. Well, they didn't have them at hers, so I went and got a second one just so we could see each other. And they came to get it on one of their business trips here. (We are close like that.)
She gets home and bam, her video card doesn't support it. With the new video card that had to be put in, plus the memory expansion, the total was upside of $300.00 including the cost of the camera. By this point we are anxiously awaiting a picture perfect view of one another, and the grandkids for her. WE turn it on and call one another using the Internet. You have an option to use either that or the phone. I have not tried to use the phone being the phone bill is what this is supposed to cut down on. You put in the persons registered E-mail address and it will see if this person has on their Camera software (A must to accept the call).
Upon starting it you will get a box that is adjustable size on your screen, it has two different mini boxes with in it. The top box is the person you are conversing with, and the bottom is you. If you see black, it is probably because the shutter is closed.
When you are getting a call you have the option of accepting or rejecting it. I do not recommend receiving calls if you don't know who it is from, I am just not into seeing naked people like that. (It has happened before). While the audio has no problem starting up after accepting the call, the video takes a bit to get up and running. Once you have accepted video is when the fun starts. It looks like everyone is moving in jerks not smooth motions, the mouth never matches the words, and the picture is almost always out of focus. Though the camera comes with an adjustable focus dial, it is for dark vs. light more then actually focusing.
There is a button on top of it used to take 'snap shots'. It will save them on your computer if you want to E-mail them to anyone. This works nice, but I do not recommend using it other than for quick shots being the cord is short and hope it happens while you are near the computer with the program running in the back. Those pictures are fuzzy and out of focus as well. -Worse than a Polaroid.-
My package came with alternative uses for this camera. Games like 'Shoop', 'Pop The Bubbles' and 'Bounce It', all are simulated games and can be fun at first but after that they go unused. To complete the package it also comes with a disk to send a friend so they can see you, even if you can see them vs. having to buy another one like we did.
All in all this is not a bad deal. I don't especially like it that much but it does save on phone bills and trips when you are lonesome for family.
Considering the price, I got what I paid for.
