Right now it is still a novelty. Like an early cell phone, it is a fun gadget that is an early example of what will become a useful future technology. The first time you call someone on it to talk they will be fascinated: Where the hell are you ? On a satellite phone ?... Oh - You are calling me from your computer... wow you must be really savvy... but why is there an echo... oh net congestion... I see. Some people will not mind talking to you on it, while others absolutely refuse.
I can hear everything perfectly with the free headset they sent me, but the other party often complains of an echo.
I enjoy talking because the headset is more comfortable than my regular phone.
I actually put some cash into my account, because where I am, I am not allowed to choose a Long Distance plan and end up paying $0.20 a minute during the day. They also sent a free headset for putting $5.00 in the account so it seems liked a deal to me. I am going to use up all my free minutes by calling close friends, but it is too embarrassing to call others. And you can definitely not make business calls on this if you want to retain any clients or make any deals.
The $0.039 per minute is really nice especially if you are out of the country - that would be the only time I would consider really using it.
It is also ok for doing things like listening to your voice mails and such.
I also have a broadband connection so I don't know how it sounds on a 56K, but I imagine it can only be worse.
Also why use Net2Phone when you can use free services like dialpad.com ?
