Avoid this place!

Pros:none - they're not even cheaper than Network Solutions
Cons:terrible customer support

Unless you want your domain name held hostage, stay away from this registrar. I made the mistake of registering a new domain name with a new Web Host Provider. The Host Provider never mentioned that they used a service other than Network Solutions. (I think that should be clearly listed on the website BEFORE you sign the contracts).

The initial registration process went fine. My new domain name was available "to the public" in approximately three days. About 2 months later, however, I found that the Web Host Provider didn't offer some of the things I needed in an NT hosting site, so I opened an account with another provider and cancelled my account with them. That went fine.

To my dismay, my new Host Provider informed me that they were unable to make the changes necessary to point my website to the location, and they asked me to get involved. It was then, that I discovered this website was registered by REGISTRARS.COM.

The REGISTRARS.COM website has very little useful information. All changes are made on line, using a user name and password. (which I didn't have, since I didn't initially register it). If you have problems, you have the option of using email to contact someone. I sent email to several of the addresses given. One of these bounced! I received a "canned" answer that one of their resellers (my original Web Host Provider) has registered this and only they could make the change.

I then used the toll free telephone number listed on website. I talked with a support person who told me the same thing. I tried to explain I was no longer with that Web Host Provider and needed to change information on the site to point to my new Host Provider. I was told that this was impossible! I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told one would return my call. I waited several days - no phone call. Fortunately, I had gotten the email address of the supervisor. I wrote. She never wrote back. I waited a few more days days and wrote again - still no answer.

I wrote to one of the "fight back" computer magazines that goes after crooked companies. I carbon copied the supervisor and every other working email address at Registrars.com. I received an email with a user name and password so I could make my own changes. No explanations, no apologies. So, I made the changes. However, my site was down for over 2 weeks during this time. (No one could find it!)

But it's not over! About a week after I made the changes, I decided to transfer my domain registration from Registrars.com to Network Solutions. I did all the paperwork with Network Solutions. Two days later, they notified me that Registrars.com refused to give up the domain name!! I went through almost exactly the same email and telephone process. My emails weren't answered and I never received return telephone calls. I wrote to the computer magazines again, the Better Business Bureau and the Internet Fraud Organization. I FINALLY received an email from a supervisor at Registrars.Com who told me that if I resubmitted the transfer again, they would approve it. I've done the resubmission. It's not transferred yet, so I'm still not sure this is going to work. I may have to hire a lawyer...
