| joe52's Full Review: ATI Rage Fury Pro |
I want to start by saying that I'm a big fan of ATI graphics cards. My last card was a Rage Pro. Now I'm running a Rage Fury Pro in a K6-2 system with 192 megs of RAM and Win98. Compared to my old Rage Pro, the Rage Fury Pro is a huge step up, but that should be a given.
The software package that comes with the Rage Fury Pro is nice. A couple of games and ATI's DVD player. The DVD player works very well (you need a DVD drive to use it), utilizing the Rage Fury Pro to provide hardware-assisted playback. The player runs smoothly in full screen mode and is stable.
Gaming with the Rage Fury Pro is less than stellar. For the same amount of money one can have a 3dfx card or and nVidia card that will probably produce higher framerates in the same system. This card is fine for a casual gamer, but if one of your primary uses for it will be gaming, a TNT2 based card might make more sense.
In closing I must say that I am a loyal ATI customer in part because of their customer service. In the past I needed a piece of software (an old version of their DVD player) that was not available on their web site. I emailed customer service and they promptly sent me a cd with the software, no questions asked. Even better, they didn't charge me a dime for it. So while I wouldn't recommend this particular card over some of its competitors, I would recommend doing business with ATI.
