I design graphics for retail sportswear and design athletic shoes all for an unnamed corporation. I use nearly all of the controls, filters, plug ins and extras for all of my programs. I like to test apps now and again to see if there are any new options to go with. From my main computer ( a Mac) used for design and illustration the top 5 are:
1. Freehand 9.0 - This program is very similar to Illustrator 9.0. I choose Freehand because of the feel and ease of use. Graphic illustration programs typically have so many options that the hard part is to give it to the consumer in a useable fashion. This application is very successful.
2. Adobe Photoshop 5.5 - In a word indispensable. This program no matter how much higher in price than it’s competitors is well worth it. There is not very many things that Photoshop can’t do from rendering extremely realistic rendering to editing catalog photos and everything in between this the only program to have.
3. Typestyler 3.56 - This program is my favorite type editing app. You can stylize type for headlines or anything for that matter give it dimension arc it anything you can dream of in here and then you can copy and paste or export in just about any file type that you need.
4. Graphic Converter (last version) - Wow. what a useful little application. This thing will open practically everything.
5. Preflight Pro - Now here is another computer program that can replace that trusted assistant. This gathers all of the necessary fonts, pictures, etc. and saves them to the location you specify. No fumbling around, no waiting for your assistant to find all of the images. Most of all no more last minute, “Oops! I must have forgotten that image/font. Stop the run!”
These are the application that I can not live without. I guess it is personal preference to a point but believe me these are all time savers.
