Several Reasons Why you should buy this notebook:
1. The CompleteCare Warranty. This is UNIQUE to Dell, from my understanding. Essentially, no matter what you do to the notebook (anything from spilled coffee, to cracking the screen, or dropping it) is covered.
Dell will replace your notebook with a new one if anything happens for three year. This is a $169 option, but, well worth every penny. Anyone who has intensive used notebooks for a period of time know that they break. Getting a new notebook without problems is a pleasure. Dell cross ships, meaning that they send you a new notebook even before you send out your old one. This is important if you can't live without your notebook.
2. Desktop Functionality that's mobile. Everything about this notebook screams performance.
A 15 inch screen, which is huge. Definitely much bigger than 14" or 13.3" screens. The screen is bright. Dell does not limit the brightness of their LCD screens as other manufacturers (like NEC). NEC purposely limits the brightness in order to avoid pixels burning out. Dell's screen is bright and crisp. A joy to work on.
A full-size comfortable keyboard. It is a joy to type on.
A range of options that are desktop-like. For example, you can put in a 25 gig hard disk. (in fact as many as 3 of them, to get a total of 75 gigs, if you need that much).
An 8 meg video card as opposed to the much smaller (2.5 megs for the equivalent Thinkpad).
Fast processor. Ability to expand the RAM a lot if you want to. I have 128 megs, and I'm thinking of getting another 128 megs.
3. Sturdy performance. This notebook is a rock. It feels well-made. A good friend of mine works in IBM as a computer consultant. He RECOMMENDED buying a Dell because he feels that its reliability and build quality is the best. (He also advised against getting a Thinkpad, which was the other notebook that I was seriously considering. He felt that the Thinkpad's battery life wasn't good.)
4. Incredible battery life. I'm able to get at least 8 to 10 hours before I have to recharge my notebook. But I use two batteries simultaneously. With one battery, I definitely get 4-5 hours.
What is the downside? Weight. It is definitely not a 3 pound notebook. It is a 10 pound brick. But it does everything you could possibly want in today's computing, including gaming. And it is built to last, which will give you peace of mind, along with an incomparable warranty.
