I spent three weeks researching video cards and finally came to a decision on the Voodoo3 3000 for two reasons. First, it is probably the best gaming card made for PCI right now, and second, I got it on sale!

I think I made the right choice. Now a lot of you will be saying "Kris, you need an AGP card." That is true, but I don't have AGP on my motherboard, so this is the best choice.

Installation was a snap! I put in the install CD and ran it BEFORE I installed the card. The reason for this is that the CD installs the drivers before you install the card, so you don't waste time with a lot of reboots. Saved me probably three reboots!

The card doesn't have much for drivers to load, but the disk comes with DirectX 7.0, as well as three demos of games, and a special driver set for MiniGL, a variation of the OpenGL standard. MiniGL is a MUST to install if you have Half-Life, Quake II or III, Unreal, etc. (games which have OpenGL support). Just remember to change the graphics settings in your game to OpenGL, or otherwise it will render in software and that will kill any and all speed advantage you bought the card for.

For someone who likes to watch video or is a PC gamer, this card is a must. For someone who doesn't have an AGP slot on their board, like me, you should get this card now, because in a year or so, most companies will probably drop PCI video cards.

In this PC of mine, it has been the biggest speed boost EVER! No question.

As a side note, while you got the case open to install this card, why not add another 32MB of RAM, it's cheap and is the best speed booster for your PC.
