The Best FREE Email Program I've Found

Written: Dec 12 '00 (Updated Dec 12 '00)
Pros:it's Free, easy to use, works well
Cons:can't always get into your account

I've tried several email accounts such as hotmail, microsoft, birdmail, and now, my favorite of all, Yahoo! mail.

Signing up for Yahoo! mail is simple. All you have to do is go to www.yahoo.com and click on the button that says "Check Email" in the top left-hand corner of the website. Once there, click "sign me up!" and sign up. They will ask you a few simple questions like what user id you'd like, your password, a security question in case you forget your password, you name, language, zip code, gender, and several other simple questions. It should only take you 2 minutes at the most unless you are having trouble thinking of a screen name. And it's as easy as that. Now you have a new email address.

Whenever you log onto your account to check your email, you'll be able to tell if you have any new messages at the Mail Home screen. Here it tells you how many new messages you have and in what folder they are in. You start with four folders; Inbox, Sent, Trash, and Bulk Mail, which is a folder where they send all messages that are considered to be spam mail. If for some reason they send something to your bulk mail that you think should not be sent there, it's very easy to tell them where to send it to. Also, if you get messages from certain people often, you may want to make seperate folders for each of them. Just click on the Folders button on the left hand of the screen and you can add one. All you have to do is specify what email address/es should be sent to that folder. This isn't necessary, but it's a good way to stay organized in case you want to find an email later on.

You also can have an address book where you can add peoples names and email addresses so you don't have to memorize them. Instead, when you compose an email, just click on Address book and you can click next to whomever you choose to send the email to.

Yahoo! Email is a relatively easy program to use, however I have one complaint. Occasionally it will not allow me to log into my account. I'm not sure if it's just because of high traffic or what, but it can be a hassle when all you want to do is just check your email. This doesn't happen real often, but when it does, I usually have to wait at least 20 minutes to get into my account. You can't be sure when it will let you, you just have to keep going back and trying to see if it is working yet.

So, if you are looking for good email program that is free, go to Yahoo! and sign up. It's a good service.
