There are many good things and some not so good things about Roger Wilco.
It's GREAT for online gamers! RW runs efficiently in the background. It will sometimes cause a little lag if several people are talking at once, but with a little practice in radio protocol, this can be easily avoided. Other than that, this is a wonderful program for online gamers.
It's a pretty good program for anyone, except that both parties must have a full duplex soundcard that is supported by RW. Many are supported, but some are not. And with some, you have to download the newest drivers which can be, at the very least, a hassle, even for someone that knows what they're doing. For a user that has never updated drivers before, this can be a fairly daunting task. (I recommend www.windrivers.com for finding updated drivers. It's about the simplest site I've found)
On the downside, communications tend to be garbled and broken during peak internet usage times. HearMe technology seems to be a much better way to communicate if you are not an online gamer. You simply go to a website that has the hearme chat installed, and talk. It's only one person at a time, and push to talk, but it includes a text chat (something I wish RW would do) for people that do not have a microphone.
Battlefield Communicator also has a feature I would like to see RW incorporate into their program. You can have several levels of communication. This is great for coordination of 'Great Wars' that online gaming squadrons sometimes participate in... The overall commander of the event can hear everything, while the people actually fighting can only hear their unit and the commander. I've written RW and suggested it, but apparently they don't have plans to do this.
One more thing. If you have installed Direct X 7.0, you'll need to download the newest beta version of RW as there is some kind of conflict in the previous versions that will cause RW to not function properly.
All in all, it's a great voice chat program. Doesn't require a lot of bandwidth or processor power. Could use some added features and could be refined a bit though, in my epinion :)
