Gateway Remanufactured Computers
Aug 27 '00 (Updated Aug 30 '00)
I've seen a number of negative comments online about Gateway computers but my experience has been great.
I purchased (August, 2000) a remanufactured Gateway Select 600 computer system and I couldn't be happier. Initially I had a problem when the computer arrived (loosened video card during shipment) but Gateway's Tech Support guided me through it with ease. I had no problem reaching Gateway's support and getting any of my questions answered (even at 1:30 in the morning)!
Considering how quickly computers become obsolete, it makes sense to buy a remanufactured system considering the cost savings. I was able to purchase the following for less than $900: AMD K-7 600 mhz processor, 15 gig hard drive, 17" monitor, 8 meg graphics, Boston Digital Stereo speakers, and tons of software. I did experience a problem with the computer "freezing up" and I had to literally unplug the system from the outlet...but this was due to new software I had installed. I got rid of that software and haven't had any problems since. Gateway's online technical support can be a little daunting since they respond by email and the information can be a little too technical for the average user. I prefer the phone technical support with a real-live-human-being providing step-by-step instructions which Gateway did with ease.
If anyone's looking for a great value they would do well to check out remanufactured computers.
