| Xiag's Full Review: Saitek Cyborg 2000 (J-18S) Joystick |
For better or worse, my purchase of this joystick is purely the fault of Ozmodiar192. He was working at the store that sold it to me, more specifically, he talked me into it. Why? Because it was a cool stick and he wanted to try it. I needed a new stick for some game or another (game couldn't have been that good if I don't remember it), so I, as always, caved in and bought it.
His reasons were sound. The stick has 4 fire buttons (3 on top and one as a trigger in front), a throttle, and a hat (for those of you who don't know what a hat is, it's a button that acts like a second joystick or 4 independent buttons, basically). What's more, the joystick is customizable. Sounds like it has everything I need for play.
Now, when I say customizable, I'm talking about the tension on its movements and buttons, the grip for your hand, and the tilt of the control stick. You can also switch it for right and left-handed play (a must for all southpaws).
Other than that, however, it's just another joystick. I personally made the move to game pads, and have been much happier for it. Often they allow more buttons for better control of whatever your playing. Unless of course, its a first person shooter(FPS), in which case any control device other than mouse and keyboard is a handicap.
The only possible exception to this rule is flight sims. There is just something about a stick that makes the whole thing more enjoyable. In those rare cases I'd suggest this stick. Providing you're like me and don't want to shell out 150 for the 'cockpit' style flight yolk, throttle and rudder pedals (quick note on rudder pedals; I've seen Ozmodiar192 put them to awesome use for strafing in FPS, might be worth a try).
As for the durability, it's impressive, especially for something that is designed to come apart. Normally speaking number of pieces is directly proportional to how fragile a joystick is (that's why those blasted Atari 2600 joysticks still work and the paddles don't).
So as a stick, this definitely gets a 4, 4 1/2. As a product all together, I'm going to have to go 3. I know gaming controls are all a matter of personal preference, so speaking personally; sticks are dead. I only recommend it if you're looking specifically for a joy stick.
