The specs don't tell the whole story.
When ordering,We asked for 128 MB of ram (before the RAM hike of '99) and took our baby with us on our 20th wedding anniversary trip to Walt Disney World. We rode First Class and the one thing lacking on the plane ride was a movie because of the short hops between airports, so we fired up "Armageddon" and WOW!!! We watched the whole movie on both flights and the computer didn't flinch one single bit. No dropped frames, no "your computer will now shut down..." dialogs!
Besides great DVD performance, the JBL speaker system is a wonderful addition to this already good laptop combo. The speedy 400 mhz AMD processor is more than up to regular tasks as well as power presentation-type monster jobs that my husband has as a computer trainer on the road.
Almost everything about this wonderful laptop is premo, EXCEPT for the smallish hard drive. Compaq needs to follow the industry and make hard drives larger for today's space hungry apps.
As laptops go, it's not extremely light, but with all the really nice rolling computer cases that are on sale for under $100 these days, this is not a caveat at all.
Speaking as an A+ Certified Technician (CompTIA), I LIKE the way this laptop is as solid as a rock and has performed at least as well as any other I have encountered (HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS!).
