Though Toshiba makes a wide range of notebooks, including the top of the line power Tecra series, Toshiba has recently expanded its notebook line to include many different value models. The Toshiba 2100 notebook is a good example of the many similar kinds of value notebooks which Toshiba offers.
In short, the Toshiba 2100 is a good value notebook for budget conscious buyers. The notebook has an active matrix color screen, though not a large one at 12.1" diagonal; this is now the smallest active matrix screen you'll find in all but a few portable computers. Also, both the processor and the hard drive, though adequate in terms of speed and capacity, are not outstanding. Like most other notebook manufacturers, Toshiba now includes 64 MB of RAM in its notebooks, since the price of RAM has dropped so much in the last two years.
Despite being a value notebook, the Toshiba 2100 still includes features of even the most expensive Toshiba notebooks, especially the excellent keyboard, complemented by a comfortable and spacious palmrest, and the eraser-head pointing device. You'll find the computer quite comfortable for extended working sessions, and I doubt you'll ever get carpal tunnel syndrome from using it.
The Toshiba 2100 will do well at almost all applications, except the most processor and memory intensive, like CAD, 3-D modeling programs, and programming simulators. You also won't get eye strain from the brilliant, active matrix screen, unlike some of the Toshiba 2100's dual scan predecessors. The Toshiba 2100 is a good, general purpose notebook, and will serve an excellent role as a second notebook, especially for going on trips while your primary notebook stays at home to guard your desk.
