The Good
* Cheap phone calls to anywhere.
The Bad
* Poor quality - You'd think that for someone with DSL service like me, I'd get better quality - but no, the quality of the audio is really poor. Sure, I can understand the other person, most of the time, but each person has to talk in a "walkie-talkie" fashion. If the other person is talking and you simply say, "Uh huh..", then it cuts out for a second or two and then you can resume. This happens even though I have a full-duplex sound card and Net2Phone recognizes it as such. Maybe I need to tweak some of the settings a bit, but I don't know what all the settings are for.
* Crashes alot - Upgrading to version 10 did not help at all. In fact, it was worse than ever. Installation was a nightmare, it messed up all kinds of things on my computer and it crashed all the time. Upgrading to the latest version, version 10.2.8, fixed some of the crashes but during a recent call, I got a "Devide by Zero" error and it crashed in the middle of a phone call.
* Not that cheap - There are other internet-to-phone services out there that are completely FREE and even some internet-based calling cards that offer better rates. Sure, half a cent better or so, but still.
* Where's my darn headset? - I signed a few months ago and was charged shipping charges for a "free" headset that has not arrived yet. I tried emailing Net2Phone's support dept. and have never received a reply. Finally, I used Net2Phone's built-in number to call their support people and complain. I was successful in reaching someone but who knows if I'll ever get my "free" headset.
Net2Phone is not a bad little "toy" if you are a techno geek and want to make a few cheap calls here and there. Don't use Net2Phone expecting to replace your trusty "real" phone though. Might want to consider DialPad instead for truly FREE phone calls. Expect a few bugs and quirks while using it.
