| bobchezule's Full Review: Dell Dimension XPS B800 |
I have made it my mission to be the preacher of Dell and spread the good word throughout the internet. Any computer user with self respect will throw their current computer out the window, purchase themselves a Dell and save us all a lot of trouble. How could you do any better? The answer to that is you couldn't. You simply can't get better than a Dell, unless you are a complete computer wizard and you put it together yourself, but how many of us can do that. You can trust me, because I work in a computer shop and I work with all kinds of computers everyday, and by far the most reliable and well built of those machines are the Dells. What follows is a quick component review.
Processor: The Intel Pentium III is still the top dog, don't believe what those AMD commercials say. AMD is, and always has been a cheap version of the Intel, and don't go cheap with your computer because you will pay for it down the road. This particular system comes with an 800mhz processor, which is more than sufficient. You will be able to play games and multitask to your hearts content.
Memory: The memory is very strong here, being the brand spanking new RDRAM, which runs 116% faster than the previous version. You will go nuts at how fast your machine is and you can brag to your friends.
Storage: The standard is 20 gigs, and that will be enough for the average user. If someone is a big fan of mp3s or games, you may want to upgrade your hard drive to something a little bigger to accommodate your tastes.
Audio and Speakers: Getting the THX speakers is a lot of fun because they will rock your house, but the standard speakers are sufficient. They will rock your room, not your house, which is more than enough for most people. Personally I would go with the THX speakers, but that is because I am a gamer and good sound makes games so much more fun. Audio card is the standard Soundblaster.
Video and Monitors: The video card is a Riva TNT2 (see my review: http://www.epinions.com/cmd-review-55D1-15136AFC-39D00254-prod3), one of the best cards on the market, and upgrades are available. Dell monitors have always been quality, and your choice of many flavors is available, ranging from 17" to 21". The bigger the better, but also the bigger the more expensive. Your call.
Final Thoughts: This is a great machine and is only a few steps away from being the most powerful on the market. It is priced remarkably low for something this sweet, so you should jump on it.
