Ah, the joy of the modern home computer studio. Sure, we have this wonderful democratization of musical creation abilities, but at what cost? The answer: only time will tell. To home produce your tracks, you need every damn product out there. Every single one. And just when you think you’re ready to finish up, you’ll find you need a few more.
Acid Pro 2.0 provides just a fraction of the total cost for a home studio. Retailing at $399, Acid Pro includes such wonderful features as the ability to organize CDs you create, perform up to 12% (in either direction) pitch shifts, and use ActiveX plugins to help control the sound. Sadly, this really doesn’t do much for you.
The ActiveX plugins hardly ever work. The CD organizer probably won’t do you any good, which leaves you with as many virtual tracks as you want and a 12% pitch shift. While 12% may be exceptional,12% sounds like a Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are performing the chorus. So all you are really left with is a standard mixing app. It’s helpful, and you can do some cheap remixes in it, but swear by Acid? I’d rather be dropping it.
