| fattony's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 3800 R500GT |
I was in the market for a new computer. I find them nearly indispensable for getting everything from papers to banking to travel plans done efficiently. Also, as a young person, I move around a lot, not just daily but I'm not too sure where I'll find myself in a few months. New jobs and opportunities can arise anytime. I felt I needed a system that could be as mobile and as versatile as I was. Perhaps more importantly I needed something reasonably price and dependable.
After doing some research I began looking at Dell laptops. The Inspiron series had all the options I could think I might need and the ability to order one built to my specifications. As well, the 3 year on-site support was hard to beat, and it gave me serious peace of mind. I could think of nothing worse than having a technical crisis on a Saturday with a 'mystery' system bought at a stereo/t.v./dishwasher/computer shop.
The Dell website gave me a good idea of what was available, but the telephone sales person blew me away with friendly service (Shannon at Dell Canada rocks!!) Anyway I got the system tailored for me and it was well worth the wait for it to be built. I got my laptop, exactly the way I wanted it, for cheaper than the IBM and Gateways I would have had to buy in order to get the same features. Granted a desktop with the same features would have been cheaper, but the versatility of the Inspiron laptop makes up for that in spades.
Here's what I ended up with: 14.1 TFT screen (very important for eyes)
10 GB HD, 64MB RAM, Modem and Ethernet card (high speed connections) and a Touch-Screen pointer - WAY better than those button things.
I could find none of these in the off the shelf systems offered by competitors.
I've had the system of 3 months now and it has been little trouble and lots of fun. For price paid and the features offered the Dell Inspiron would be hard to beat.
