I recieved an unbelievable offer on this card that I couldn't pass up. I currently had the Leadtek Geforce DDR, and really wasn't looking to upgrade but my Unreal Tournament addiction kicked in and I just couldn't wait to see my Frames Per Second go through the roof..
Believe me, it they did. I was getting about an average of 35-40 FPS with my old card at 1024x768@16 bit.. I was hitting 60 @ 1600x1200 and 32bit!!! The occasional lag I would experience when there was alot going on is now non-existant.. Granted 300 dollars is cheap for THIS card but is not a cheap investment by any means.
As for a few specs on the card -
The GPU runs at 250Mhz
Ram is at an unbelievable 460Mhz
These are the major updates from the Geforce 2. Mainly speed of the ram and the processor. I was able to tweak about 10 more mhz out of the GPU and about 20 more out of the ram but any more than that I started getting the little sparkles on the screen when running 3D programs.
The Physical aspects of the card are quite interesting also. The card itself is blue?.. Kind of neat but not important. The ram chips themselves have heatsinks glued to them, which this baby definately needs. It gets HOT!.. The GPU has a fairly healthy heatsink/fan combo on it also. I would recommend a good air flow setup in your case if you want to run this and a healthy cpu.
One very nice aspect about the Hercules line of cards is that you can update the bios on the cards with a windows program.. Very slick.
I would recommend this card to anybody who is looking to upgrade from an older SDR Geforce, any older model of 3DFX, or is building a new gaming system. Quite frankly there isn't anything out at this time that can even come close. Unless you get a really good deal on them the actual retail at this time is still quite pricey. The NV20 coming out next year will most likely knock the price of this card out of the stratosphere.
Go for it.. YOu won't regret it!
