| cyberarmy's Full Review: Apple Power Macintosh G4 Multimedia |
The Apple Power Macintosh G4 producing high quality multimedia and gaming performance. The G4 is a extreme highly powerful Macintosh, by far one the fastest and most reliable systems I’ve seen and tested yet. My brother owns this beast and recently purchased it and I’ve had quite a bit of time to test trial run it and let you know my opinion.
While shipping with the newest latest OS (OS 9) it’s an extreme change from previous operating systems, they have really tightened the security on these machines. They allow you to create logins and edit security access features for each user, it’s truly a good security tight OS.
The machine is quite speedy on boot, it doesn’t take it but a minute to power on and be ready for your command. It boots programs quickly and efficiently and I’ve yet to see any real problems with it. In fact, the only problem I’ve seen with it so far is it won’t run extreme old programs, I received an error message once opening an older program stating “This program can not run on your new speedy state of the art Macintosh’. It feels good to actually get that rather than a ‘System Error’.
Apple Remote Access however is an evil connection program and a high conflict on the G4’s, I’ve noticed a lot of ‘freeze ups’ when attempting to disconnect and shutdown the system. And I’ve also noticed the same results of freeze ups when leaving the Apple Remote Access Status program open (just close it up after you’ve connected, you don’t need to see any of it’s information anyway). Aside from that issue it has a great internal 56k modem which connects and ultra high speeds and downloads like a bat out of he**.
The G4 has an ultimate DVD/CD ROM it’s equipped with (optional) that plays DVD’s and an ultra graphic output display. I’ve watched several movies on the new G4 and I’ve never seen it stop to think about what it has to display next.
Aside from that the only downside to this Apple and any other newer apple is the lack of floppy drives. I’ve had to go out and get an Ethernet card for my older Mac and a hub to be able to transfer files between them.
Overall I rate the new Mac G4 and excellent well designed and powerful machine, it even has a great look to it. It has a quite high price to pay, but very well worth the cash if you can afford it. Let me know what YOU think.
