I made the jump from a 15" .28 Compaq monitor(obviously received through a computer package deal) to the Accusync 75F about a month ago. I figured I'd use the Compaq monitor for a few months and if I 'just had to have' a 17" monitor, I'd wait and use the money from the computer package rebate to buy one.
Well, I definitely wanted a 17" monitor and at first I wanted to pay less than $200 for a basic one. However, after looking in a few stores, I saw there was a big difference between a regular CRT and the ones with a perfectly flat screen. I thought it was worth it to spend the extra $50 or so. I don't really know a lot about all of the technical features of monitors, but the NEC looked the best. I had it narrowed down to the Accusync, the KDS ATV7F, and the Sony with the flat screen.
The Accusync has a 16" viewable screen and a .24mm dpi. There was a huge difference after I switched monitors. All you have to do is plug it in. No drivers come with the monitor, so if you have problems getting it to work, I suppose you just get the drivers from NEC's website. Just comparing it to my old Compaq, there is no glare, the picture is very clear and sharp, and the options are abundant. The degausser seems to work real well, even though I don't know what exactly it does.
One of the other reasons I wanted a flat screen is because I have problems with eye strain when using computers, and they were suppose to be easier on the eyes. I would definitely agree with that statement, so if you use your computer a lot this might be something to think about.
If you intend to transfer this monitor a lot, watch out. It is very heavy compared to similar monitors. It is about the same size, but just a lot heavier and hard to carry a long way with the unequal weight distribution.
The value is very good on this monitor. I purchased it for $229 from onvia.com with no shipping charge. That is around the same price as the similar KDS, but I would rank the NEC as a little better screen quality.
