| rgraber's Full Review: Sony VAIO PCG-350 |
I was after a notebook within the $1,800 - $2,300 range. This range I think is able to give you decent power without having to pay outrageous prices for the super fast processors currently available. After having exhaustively looked at the many notebooks available on the market, I absolutely could not make up my mind.
I had strongly considered the Compaq 1694 as it looked packed with features and I had had good luck with Compaq in the past. The Compaq has the AMD K6-2 450MHZ processor, 6.4gb hard drive and DVD player which I liked and 64 Mb of RAM. This is the one I thought I would purchase. Then, as I was meandering through an electronics store I ran across the Sony Vaio series of notebooks. Immediately it grabbed my attention.
Till that point I hadn't even considered the Sony. I settled on the F-350 model which has the Pentium II 366MHZ processor, 64Mb of RAM, 6.4 gb hard drive AND a DVD player plus a beautiful 14.1" active matrix screen. I feel more comfortable with the work horse well established Pentium as opposed to the newer AMD.
One of the main reasons I purchased the Sony is because of ease in hooking up with other Sony products such as a digital camera or camcorder (they call it i-link). You can hook up by wire or transfer information by infra red eye on the side of the unit, just point the two sources toward each other and start downloading!. Because I sell lots of product online, I can get pictures into the computer in no time at all.
This is the perfect computer for working on the internet, speed is fantastic. The list price at Ultimate electronics was $2,250 and Sony currently has a $100 rebate on this model which made it even more attractive. I strongly urge you to consider the Sony VAIO series. In my opinion an excellent value.
