| msk's Full Review: Pagoo |
I discovered Pagoo at the mypoints.com website. Originally I tried it just for the mypoints. I had been paying for a pager so my friends could reach me when I was online. Pagoo was cheaper so I decided to give it serious consideration. My feelings so far? I love it...and hate it!
It works well except for a particular flaw which really needs addressed. I have my system set to dial automatically to check mail every few hours and to exchange data modules for seti at home (setiathome.berkeley.edu). It's also set to disconnect after 20 minutes of disuse. The Pagoo pager tends to make it redial and/or stay online past the 20 minutes.
I came home from a few days out of town to find my connection had been constant for the entire time! Needless to say, I load Pagoo only when I'm online now, which means I forget to load it sometimes. It keeps your messages until you log on, but often that's too late. I missed a friends birthday party a couple weeks ago because I had forgotten to load Pagoo and I didn't get the message until the next day. I wish I could leave it running fulltime like it's meant to run.
Overall it's very useful and I definately recommend it over getting a second line or pager, but I feel Pagoo needs to address this concern and correct it before it's as useful as it could be.
