Choosing a video card for your new computer, or even as an upgrade to an aging set-up, is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. So when it came down for me to get a new computer, it should come as no surprise that i should choose to include an asus video card into my athlon configuration. Why asus? why not creative labs? well, for one thing, creative labs' annihilator was rushed out the door, and most other geforce cards had nothing special to boast about either. But then my eyes came across the asus v6800 deluxe, and i knew that was the one for me.
So let's start off with the pros of the card. For one, the deluxe version of the card comes with tv inputs and also the 3d glasses. Although the glasses are not a new concept, Asus was able to take the idea to a whole new level. With special 3d openGL and D3D written drivers, it was no wonder that using these glasses brought you to a new level of gaming that no monitor alone can bring you to. Another thing to take note of is the awesome support and reputation that Asus brings to the table. In the past, Asus has been known to religiously release updated drivers, even for unpopular and discontinued models. This brings a sense of relief knowing that you can count on Asus to bring you drivers so that you can always play the latest games, and have any bugs that you may have fixed. As if that weren't enough, Asus also provides you with a software DVD decoder, two full games ( drakan and rollcage) and a CD with other demos of games.
As for the cons, well to be honest, there aren't many. Even if you look in most chat boards online, when people post their specs of their systems, if they have a geforce card, usually it's from Asus, and that is no coincidence. The only bad thing that i could think of is availability of the product. I have yet to see a board made by Asus anywhere besides online, but retail stores are usually a rip-off anyway.
With that in mind, it can be concluded that people involved in graphic intensive applications such as gaming and 3D studio max would benefit the most from this product.
I have had this product almost from the moment it was released, and so far have no problems with the card.
