As I was digging through all the gadgets that came with my computer, I wasn't expecting to see this round eye staring at me. Much to my pleasure, the Logitech QuickCam internet video camera was in the box, and a part of my new system.
This wasn't something that I was just having to get, but it was included. I had seen these advertised for prices up to $100, so why not give it a try? Besides, someone might want me to send them a video e-mail!
Simple is the best word to describe this little ball that is now sitting on the top of my monitor. It rests in a thoughtfully shaped cradle that keeps it from slipping, and requires no attachment to anything but the cord to the CPU. I do get the feeling that "big brother" is watching me, but of course, it is turned off.
They sure are making all of these new things simple. I just followed the instructions on the CD-ROM and installation was quick. It was up and running in 10 minutes. Oh my gosh, there I was! Kind of a frightening experience to see yourself as others see you at your computer.
Seriously, it was a snap to send a video e-mail. The hardest part was to remember to look at the camera, smile, make silly faces, and decide when enough is enough. You can replay it before you decide if you want to terrorize someone in their e-mail box, and then just click on "send an e-mail", type in the address, and click send. I am still awaiting the results of this deed!
There are many nice features with the software, you can create a video just for yourself, there is a nice photo album where you can store stills and videos, plus other simple examples of uses for this.
Would I buy one..........well, that depends on the price! However when it was included I would say yes, yes, yes. It's fun! The resolution is excellent, and doesn't everyone want to get a video from you?
One recommendation: make sure you have your make up on (ladies, only) and a smile on your face. It may be a toy, but the price was right!
