chuey's Full Review: NBA Live 2000 for PlayStation 1
I have been a fan of the Live Series ever since its auspicious debut on the SNES in 1995. Needless to say, EA has proven itself to be the leader in console basketball games year after year. Graphically, they are unrivaled (except perhaps by the recent NBA 2K), as well as in AI and options. This year is no exception. NBA Live 2000 was one of my most eagerly awaited titles of the year, and i can proudly say that it was the best 30 bucks i ever spent on a game. I have gotten countless hours of play out of it and still enjoy it to this day! The newest installation of the Live series is just brimming with features! Those who say that there are little improvements from Live 99 in terms of graphics may be correct, but being that it's a playstation title, we should be very satisfied. As far as gameplay, the controls are airtight and the AI is much improved! In terms of controls, moves that looked pretty in Live 99 but were completely impractical are actually useful this year! Spin moves and stutter steps not only look great but are very useful in shaking a defender when used correctly! As for AI, the game I would argue has the best AI of all hoops sims to date. Even the much bouted NBA 2K has had some serious criticisms in terms of its rather lackluster AI. As fans cried for concentration on AI last year, they finally got their wish. This year's AI is much improved over Live 99. No more just running through the CPU's defense like swiss cheese. No more Shot Displays that look like the team was made up of five centers. Nope, you'll have to work this year to get your shot off, and what's great is that you are actually rewarded for ball movement. When your man is open, chances are he'll make the shot! Also, knowing how the strength and weaknesses of your player's real life counterpart are extremely useful for scoring and winning. Whew, all this and i still haven't touched upon the legends aspect of Live 2000. I can sum it up in one word: Jordan. Nuff said. Basically, this is the best hoops game there is. And that's that.
