Pros:very easy to use, saves a lot of time
Cons:few bugs in the program, but its worth it
This is a great product for cloning your computer's hard drive. It is ideal for home or professional use. I personally use this product at my work. It has saved me from many extra hours of work.
At my job, I am required to format and reinstall operating systems, and any other program that is needed. Whether it be a brand new computer, or any computer that has not been restored in the last 6 months.
Needless to say that this process could take a very long time to complete.
That is where Norton Ghost comes into play.
The most effective way to use this program is to actually do 1 fresh installation of the operating system and any other programs that you want on the computer. Go through the install process as you normally would.
I prefer to scandisk and defrag the computer before i make the clone, though it is not neccessary.
Ok, you have your freshly installed computer sitting in front of you. Its time to use 'Norton Ghost' and save you from hours of work.
Norton Ghost will allow you to do a large variety of tasks. You can copy from disk to disk, partition to partition, save to image, or copy through LPT ports.
In most cases, you will want to 'save to image'. Doing this will save a copy of everything on your hard drive in a compressed volume. It is almost like a .ZIP file. Except it is a .GHO file.
If your doing this at work and have access to the server, its a good idea to store your newly created disk image on the server for easier acess. Burning the image to a CD is another great idea.
And incase you are wondering, restoring from a backup is just as easy. The instructions for this program are very good, there is a lot of information in the help files.
This program is useful for begineers at home wanting to backup their information, or Professionals working with 100's of computers at work.
I was also reading another persons review about a bug with Norton ghost and Norton Anti-virus, I have also found trouble with some larger drives not having information written correctly on the last block on the hard drive. You can either reclone the drive, or use Norton Utilities on it. Fixes it every time for me.
