I choose the Philips Recordable/ReWriteable 4x/4x/24x CD-ROM because the cost was so reasonable -- only $199. The drive came installed on my newest computer, so I didn't install the hardware. However, I've had to reformat my hard drive recently, so I had to reinstall drivers/software. I did not have any problems with reinstallation.
The one downside is the lack of documentation. It would have been nice to have a help file that went into some depth. The help offered is pretty superficial.
So, it's good that using the Adaptec Easy CD Creator and DirectCD software that comes with it is fairly intuitive. Making data or audio CDs was pretty easy. You just use the wizard and you're walked through the steps. Once you've worked with it a bit, it's easy to use and make data and custom audio CDs. I've not had any glitches with the hardware or software as of yet. I'm really enjoying making CD's with it!
