RR really is the best program for kids!
Written: Jan 14 '00
Pros:different activities to learn different skills/concepts
Cons:Have to change your pixels to larger size
I recently was having trouble finding things challenging, but fun enough to let my 4 year old play on the computer. We had tried Elmo's Preschool, but he outgrew it quickly. We were visiting my inlaws, and my brother in law who is 8, was using Reader Rabbit. He had been having trouble learning to read and it had helped him tremendously. My son loved watching his uncle play, so we went out and bought the Preschool level right away.
I have to say this has been the best game for Preschoolers I have found. The repetition is great, and by earning "tickets" to use on a ride, the child gains a sense of accomplishment. Yes, it takes a long time to earn these tickets, they must master the skill, but you can leave and come back any time. My son mastered one skill, and takes time out from the other activities to go ride the "ferris wheel" he earned the tickets for!
I have notice a greater understanding of basic language, matching, patterns, and math in my child since using this system. It just backs up what he learns at Preschool. This program adapts to the childs grasp of the current concept and gets harder as the child gets better. I can't wait for him to graduate to the next level so we can see how he improves! Of course it is all at his own pace!
The only thing I don't like about this program is that it requires larger pixels than I usually keep my computer screen at. If you keep it at the smaller pixels (600x800) it will freeze up.
