I searched long and hard to find the best external cd rewriter. I found it in the backpack cd-rewriter. I bought my backpack 20x4x4 for $240 through egghead.com. Compared to the rest on the market at the time this external was both faster and far cheaper than the competition.
My backpack is very easy to use. It comes with a manual that is very easy to use and very easy to follow. The cd software that comes with the product is very easy to use. You can make both data and music cd's. The cd's are made very fast. The backpack can make entire cd's in about 17 minutes.
One very nice feature is that since it uses the parallel port on your computer, which your printer also uses, there is another slot in the back of the backpack to plug your printer into. It is a nondisruptive port so you can burn cd's and print stuff at the same time with out slowing either process down.
The installation is very easy. After simply plugging the cable in you install the software and you are ready to go.
There are some drawbacks to the backpack though. The website technical support is not very well run. One major problem though. Some backpacks, from what I was told just random ones, have a laser problem so when you make audio cd's, the cd's wont play the music. If you have this problem, which I know of because I did, then you have to send it back to Microsolutions and they will fix it and send it back.
Overall I think it is the best one on the market. Very fast and very inexpensive. Just hope yours does not need to be sent back.
