If you can read this, you can get free Long distance

Written: Feb 14 '00
Pros:Free long distance, no strings
Cons:slower modems may have echos

I know I'm not the only one who hates long distance fees and how they are here then there, but now there is a new site that will make your phone bill almost disappear.

What dialpad.com is is an online long distance phone dialer. Basically all you have to do is sign up and there you go, free long distance. The dialer will pop up everytime you log on and all you have to do is put in your friends username, and it will connect the two of you. Another great feature is that you can also call a regular phone. Now, I don't really know if it charges you while you are connected to a phone, but it still can't be more expensive than a regular phone call.

The way dialpad pays for its phone calls are by the most common way of company revenue today, the banner ad. All they do is pop up every few seconds, but they are not annoying at all. They pop up on the dialing window, so they don't make a new window that will bug you.

The clarity is a different story though. Depending on your internet connection, your call will be clear or have echos. Now I have a 56k modem, and it does a pretty good job of keeping up on the call itself, only a few echoes here and there. If you have anything like a cable modem, dsl, T1 or T3, anything fast, it will be just about a perfectly clear call, for free.

So if you want a long distance call, at no charge, then I think dialpad.com is the way to go.
