| 1GQ's Full Review: Compaq iPAQ H3650 Pocket PC |
Well after much anticipation I finally got my hands on a iPaq Pocket PC! Compaq definately put some thought into this gadget, it has met and in some cases exceed all my expectations. Sporting a brushed metal alloy look the iPaq is strikingly sleek and stylish; I'd never had guessed its actually made of plastic. It feels solid and durable when I hold it; its also quite comfortable for extended periods thanks to its wonderful ergonomics. Could it be that a PocketPC has finally topped the Palm V in design? I think so and its about time!
The iPaq features Compaq's new enhanced reflective display which has an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness based on its surroundings making it good for both indoor and outdoor viewing. Capable of displaying 12 bit (4,096) color, the iPaq's picture quality will satisfy most everyone; if you look carefully though you'll see that pictures look slightly grainy but still much better than most digital camera displays. Its pretty convienent if you have a compactflash based digicam; now you can really check your shots on the road! Powered by an Intel StrongArm 200 mhz processor, the iPaq is unbelievably fast, basic operations such as switching from application to application perform without hesitation. Unfortunately Compaq doesn't ship any real apps with the iPaq, albeit thats why its a $100 dollars cheaper than its competitors too. Then again I guess I'd rather save the hundred and buy only the apps I really want.
In conclusion this is the best PDA I've used to date. Its compact size allows easy and comfortable storage in my jacket pocket and its super fast usb connection syncs with my PC in a blink of an eye. If your a Windows CE fan the iPaq is a must have, heck I sure even some die hard Palm V users will be converting soon too :-)
