Acrophobia? There's a cure for that, you know

Written: Apr 03 '00
Pros:Fast paced, challenging
Cons:You will never get any work done again!

Warning! This game may prove to be highly addictive!

I read somebody's review on this game a few days ago, and because the makers were the ones who came up with "You don't know Jack", I decided to give it a try. I went to www.bezerk.com and downloaded Acrophobia. My final thought? I wish someone had warned me about it being as addicting as epinions itself!

The name of the game is to come up with a sentence for the acronym given to you. For example, 3 letter acronym, AGA, category, general. Sentence? Acrophobia Game Addicting. For each round, a category is chosen and you are administered a 3,4,5,6 or 7 letter acronym. Your creativity really shines as you try to come up with an ingenious sentence in the time allotted. The top two players at the end of the game participate in a face-off, where you must come up with three acronyms each in a 20 second time period.

During the game, there is a chat board that you may participate in if you wish to do so. There are a number of rooms to visit, much like a regular chat room. You have a choice of letting the computer pick your room, finding a room yourself, or finding friends that you've met previously.

There are two main types of rooms. You can choose to play the "clean" version or the "adult language" version. I have to warn you that the "adult language" rooms can get pretty raunchy and sometimes very unoriginal. I've never played in the "clean" version, so I'm not sure what goes on over there.

The game is really fun and challenging. Even if you don't come up with sentences on your own right away, you will gain a lot from reading and voting for the others. Some people come up with the most hilarious, nonsensical sentences that you just can't help but vote for.

One word of warning. If you're computer is really slow, you might not be able to enjoy the game. I know that with my old computer, I could not play "You don't know Jack" because every other word was cut off with my computer trying to keep up with all the space the game used. If this is the case for you, try getting onto a friends computer and playing at least once. It's worth it and you might just be glad you did.
