What is IMesh?

Well, let me just say that this a program is one of the best computer to computer programs on the Internet besides Napster, because the program can download mp3s, movies, and images which can be a great help in many ways.


Can it be better than Napster?

Due to IMesh’s small size that increases to grow, transfers are usually 2.35k which is a big help when downloading large files. Also, these speeds are usually accessible from slower connections while using Napster data transfers are usually .71k when connected with 28.8 with AOL. In addition, IMesh is much more flexible and can find movies, mp3s, and images. This is a big help when trying to find pictures on the net and nothing is available, you can search the thousands of member computers for the picture. Plus, you can find movie clips quickly and without the trouble of searching trough all the pages that come up in Dogpile. The only thing that IMesh lacks that Napster has is the Advanced search features that Napster comes with. While searching for mp3s in IMesh you cannot cancel out all of the slow connections, bitrate, or ping. This can really be a pain when trying to find a quick connection to download the file and if you don’t want to take of more of your computers memory than necessary.


The Downfall...

Like most of these large member connection programs, the major problem is that connection to the server is on a chance bases. Unlike Napster that has a fairly large server database, IMesh has quite a smaller one. Unfortunately this causes a lot of mis connections and random disconnections. But, thankfully this can very from the distance from you and the server. I myself have been kicked off of IMesh due in part to AOL and because of my slow connection. Also, IMesh is always growing and needs changes monthly which causes a lot of trouble. Once while downloading a large file, IMesh was undergoing changes. During the downloading IMesh shut down but the program stayed open and keep downloading a phantom file that no longer existed. So, after three hours of downloading with no file return, I went crazy. Luckily for future reference, you can go to the status page which will tell you if IMesh is still online.
