Buy Dell, if you're not building your own.

As I've stated before, I work for a large computer hardware and peripheral company, and have an opportunity to work on all kinds of computers for both the regular employee as well as executive staff. I have used and configured just about every brand name in the business, from Toshiba and NEC to Sony and Dell. it is the consensus of my ENTIRE department that the Dell computer, both laptops and desktops, are the most reliable machines on the market. Since this opinion will be on laptops only, I will post another opinion on the desktop as well.
This article is a combination of both my and my coworker's observations concerning Dell laptops. Specifically, the Latitude CP series, which we have set up and delivered over 100 of in the past few months. Dell's machines are easy to set up, and come with software semi-installed. As a user you will be given information to use when calling Dell in case anything fails during install. The installation process is a snap and finishes solidly with a minimum of reboots.
There are many features we enjoy in the Dell machines. It is easy to access the hardware from a repair standpoint, the machine's components are durable and don't wear out as easily, the BIOS is simple to use and configure, and the display is sharp with crisp colors. PCMCIA support is fantastic, the ones we have are shipped with a DVD drive, and the DVD decoder card is a snap to set up after installing the software. The one nice thing about Latitudes is that it will utilize CD and floppy at the same time, due to the innovative design of battery/peripheral slots. You can even put in two batteries if you want to. This makes for a solid, dependable business solution.
Perhaps the best thing about Dell is their support. Both the phone support and web-based support is top notch. The Dell web site is extremely easy to navigate, and getting the files you need is much easier than any other hardware or computer site I have visited. Phone support is also good, with most of the techs I've spoken to very knowledgeable of their products. It makes any small errors we've noticed very painless to fix.
Dell makes a solid business machine. If there were any complaints about their design, I can't remember any valid ones. If you are a big laptop user, this is the machine brand for you.
